bs. the 9th ward is the slowest coming back after katrina. if they were getting all the help and "action" it would be a hell of a lot further ahead. from what i have been able to see, the areas with the most private money are the ones making the most progress.

That wasn't my point at all. Lakeview, east Orleans, Mississippi, Slidell all got hammered, but 90% of the coverage was about the 9th Ward. La, MS, Alabama coasts are getting hammered by oil and yes there is media attention. I was simply being a smartass about what seemed the most important in the Katrina saga.

I dont know but it would seem 8B will be a fraction of the cost. CNN reported this morning BP is already at 1.6B and we havent scratched the surface. Alabama claims to have a 5B tourist industry on the gulf. What about Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana? What does that include? Its going to take some serious economic study to determine the actual cost but it would stand to reason 8B isn't enough. The cleanup cost will be minuscule compared to all the economic damage claims. BP should just give the entire company to the United States. It may be cheaper. LOL

theyve already been cutting checks so i assume the $1.6B includes some of that.

Nice try at crawfishing, but you said "see some action" and not "see some publicity". The 9th Ward received more than it's fair share of publicity and rightfully so as it was the location of the government's biggest example of ineptitude in the failure of the levees. Lakeview received plenty of coverage and it's more than a solid Democrat base. The 9th Ward is still largely unpopulated while the rest of the city is experiencing solid growth and prosperity beyond pre-Katrina levels.

Lack of publicity is not an issue for the oil leak. Outside of a few hours of coverage for elections and the Time Square Bombing attempt, the Gulf has been the headlining story.

LOL! Let me help you out, since you want to be so nit-picky on words. "Nice try" means I failed, so you said I failed at crawfishing. Thanks, I agree!

Everything you and Okie point out is correct. Note where I said "yes there is media attention." Where's Jesse and Al? Where's someone saying "Barack Obama hates white people"? Where's Sean Penn on the coast helping those whose livelihood is ruined? We saw all this when 9th Ward was publicized so much. I thought maybe oil there would spur some action/publicity/whateverwordyouwish. Hear's a word combo for you: selective caring.
