I've also got a lot of brilliance, just off the top of my head...:thumb:.

    norway and brazil require it.

evidently BP and the US werent convinced theyd work. of course they werent convinced the sheer rams that they do have would work either. seems like more of a reason to have more back ups.

I want to say that I saw a link that lead me to a site that streamed live video from an ROV of the oil plume coming out of the source.

Did I see that on here somewhere?

I told my dad about it and he's got 2 boats out there (Hornbeck Offshore) and he said that they took his live feed away. He wants to see this live feed that I told him about, but of course I can't find it.

I thought I saw it on one of Hatcher's links that he provided, but it either got taken off or I was mistaken and saw it somewhere else.

Can anyone help me find the live video stream from an ROV at the scene?

I agree completely with your Redfish forum post. Your tale of the one that got away can be compared to the catastrophe in the Gulf. Sometimes the fish wins and as alluded to by "James" in the Mark Levin interview, sometimes Mother Nature wins.

Transocean did not want to lose that rig and BP did not want to lose that oil. I expect, though, that lawyers and environmentalists will do their best to portray both as renegades sacrificing safety for profit and that is just not the case.

of course, but obviously they werent safe enough. its hard to imagine a rationale for not including the acoustic remote valve as anything other than money. they should have had more safeguards specifically because of the potential for catastrophic effects on others (financial, environmental and quality of life) and because their existing safeguards werent validated under their current drilling conditions.

just protecting their own financial interests is not enough when their business can affect so many others so severely. another example of necessary government regulation.

Please...PLEASE don't make this a political argument. It's so much bigger than that. I don't think even Sabanfan believes there should be NO government regulation of anything!

it absolutely is bigger than politics, but the politics of it is unavoidable.

many people screwed up to allow this to happen. they will pay in many ways and the industry and gov should learn from it so it is unlikely to happen again.

I hope you're right about that...and that's what SHOULD happen. I know the politics is unavoidable, but there isn't any sense in starting a political debate with someone just because you know his tendencies. He didn't say the government needs to butt out of this...he didn't say there shouldn't be any government regulation of the oil industry. Sometimes both sides can be right, ya' know. His post was dead on, and yours was too...that they should've had the safeguards in place. Believe me, I believe in redundancy...and they should have had in place redundant safeguards.

yeah, i think an explanation is in order. this sounds like the insurance companies after katrina in the way they tried to twist every little thing to keep from compensating home owners.

    the buck passes here.

    this is gonna get uuuuuuugly.

i have the feeling its all gonna be pr with smoke and mirrors. i hope im wrong, but after all the experiences we had after katrina, i dont have a lot of faith in anything when it comes to doing the right thing for those effected.

This is no different than a commercial plane crash. The feds will investigate and make recommendations to ensure it doesn't happen again. It will make things safer in the long run.
