Ron Zook is a very good recruiter, and isn't a bad coach. He just looked bad at Florida because he came in right after "legend" Steve Spurrier.
This is great news for LSU. Ole Miss fires a great coach and is considering replacing him with a mediocre coach.
Zook was 23-14 in 3 years. I believe Saban was 26-12 in his first 3 years. Cutcliffe was 44-29 in 7 seasons...
zook is a lock for illinois although ole myth should be grateful if they landed him. Comparing Zook and Saban's records is very misguided given the state of programs at the time.
Maybe Ron Zook does better in a low profile place like Oxford. Not as much pressure following Cutcliffe as their was Spurrier. Still a mistake they got rid of Cutcliff though. Wonder if any of their players have decided to transfer and wonder how good a recruiting class they are going to have if they dont get someone hired pretty quick. Geaux LSU TIGERS
tirk... where are you getting your information that Zook is a lock for Illinois? Just curious. also, anyone hear any of the new names being tossed about for the ND position? I read that Boise State locked their coach in for another 2 years today, so he is out. Butch Davis told ESPN he will not be coaching anywhere next year (he got a $12 million buy out from Cleveland).
illinois was on zook very early and from everyone I have spoken to with a little insight on that job says they are very close to a deal if one is not done already. Of course, this means nothing in today's carousel of chaos in the coaching profession. each is using leverage to gain more money from their ideal spot. Indiana and Illinois are both dead end jobs where success cannot be had. I hope he takes ole myth for his sake over illinois. he has very little hope to succeed at oxfart yet zero chance at champaign.
