Oh I know they don’t control it, at least publically – but they do have influence over it, are not ashamed to admit it and use it - especially the lower tier bowls Bama and State will be vying for. Good luck - Bama has a couple of hard games in front of them. ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule:
Simple, almost all of them besides the BCS. The bowl tie contracts are with the conference, not the individual schools. The conference works with the bowls and the schools - for example the contract with the Liberty Bowl and the Music City Bowl are both with the conference - there are certain criteria to be met by a school to be in a bowl and the contract with the conference sets certain marks such as "... bowl will get at least the team with the 5 best overall record in the conference if the conference determines it is in the overall conference best interest ..." It has been widely known for many years the conferences with bowl contracts - lower tier bowls - can influence who goes to what bowl. :insane: :insane: :insane: I know, but it happens all the time in these lower tier bowls. The conference office tries to spread the love around to get teams in bowls, generat revenue, etc, etc, etc.
Nuf said. Would suit me fine if Dick Satan's name didn't surface here again until November, 2008. To quote Dick in his postgame comments, "It ain't about me."
by low, you mean one of the highest areas of talent per capita? it is cyclical. we will get our share some years and not many others, but this year mobile has a freakish amount of talent coming out of it considering it has 198,000 people. but yes, they are loaded next year and that qb is bama bound.
The thing that may weigh against that is what happens with Russell Shepard. Applewhite has his ear...
Saban has appeared to make significant inroads into Mobile. But I think LSU will re-establish its claim on Mobile as soon as the luster wears off of Saban.
