you all here know I am not one to throw a coach under the bus unless I truly feel it is deserved, but I really believe it's time we look for a new special teams coach. this is the second season in a row the kick coverage and return units are not up to par with the NCAA. Last year they used the excuse that the opposing team never scored and LSU always scored, so the coverage units stats were off balance, but this year is the same thing. So in the offseason, that would be 1 thing I would possibly look to change. that's just my opinion. Feel free to disagree. edit: to add to my point is the absurd number of penalties on the return teams. I know that type of blocking isn't taught, but it could be corrected.
I said the same thing last night. No punt return game to speak of. No kickoff return game, even though LSU has the fastest man in college football. Giving up returns. Can't kick off deep. Ugly.
Viewing this year's games, it would be difficult if not foolish to disagree with your assessment. I don't know if it is our schemes that are at fault or poor execution, but the kick coverage and kick return teams have been a major disappointment this season. It seems odd to me that this late in the year we are still seeing a variety of punt returners. In yesterday's game, it did finally seem as though there were a couple of times our punt rush came close to a block. Special Teams performance is a serious issue to address now and at the end of the season as well. ldskule:
Brad Peveto's special teams have underperformed in each year he's been in charge. I expected him to be replaced last off season. He must be a good linebacker coach to keep his job, but Miles needs to upgrade the special teams coach without fail this off season.
Well, sounds like we need to keep him building our LBs and hire a new ST coach. Anybody know any good names to throw around? Not my strong suit.
                     Lou Holtz?
I agree, our special teams is horrible. How hard can it be to tell Fisher to stop kicking it in the endzones on punts. And that's the smallest problem. If you watch when the other team is punting, we half ass try and block the punt and we don't even come close. After that, that's it. We let all the defenders run down the field and make a tackle. We know we not gonna block the damn punt, block the man in front of you and stop him from making it down the field so fast. Sheesh.
