Can anybody help me obtain a DVD recording of the telecast of this football game? It's one of the most famous games in all of college football history, and, I believe that it was the very first college football game telecast nationally and in prime-time. Archie Manning was the QB for Ole Miss in this game. AB won by one point. Thanks.
I can't believe there aren't sites that make this kind of thing readily accessible to consumers. Pay $10-$15 for a DVD of a game from whoever did the telecast. I'm sure there is some sort of way to request it but who the hell knows who to contact or how much, etc...
I remember that game. Manning was incredible. One of the best college football games I've ever watched. Seems Ole Miss had a wide receiver that had a great game that day. Can't remember his name. My recollection fails. I'd love to see that one again. Good luck finding it.
Correct: Alabama’s 33-32 win over Ole Miss in 1969 was the first-ever prime time regular season telecast of a college football game. http://www.rolltide.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8000&ATCLID=1259009 Here is the only guy I know who has a library of old games: http://www.lsumac.com/ Maybe he has it or knows where to get it.
Was that the shootout between Manning and Scott Hunter at QB for Bama? Like 45-44 game, GREAT GAME, no doubt. I watched it, and I still remember the score going back and forth, some great passing in that game, if its the one I remember.
isn't this the game that basically began the "legend of Archie Manning"... I've been told by my old man that the talk and hype surrounding Manning was similar to what's going on with Tebow. Said something about how he was lights out in a televised game that basically launched him into the spotlight.
while we're discussing old games... anyone happen to have '79 LSU vs USC? DVD, VHS, I don't care.... I'd love a copy.
JL, email [email protected]. He'll charge 10 bucks for the DVD...you should have it in a couple of days depending on where you live.
I was "fortunate" enough to work with Scott Hunter as a kid at WKRG in Mobile. Instead of working (surprise if you have seen his news casts) I was able to watch this game with him. Really was a great game...except I wasn't used to the type of TV quality all you geezers had to use. :hihi:
