    Re: Our Offense

    My observations....
-Flynn was inconsistent once again in the first half with bad passes and INT's
-Why didn't LSU get the running game going in the 1st half instead of passing what seemed like 2 downs out of every 3 downs.
-Why was Flynn and/or Crowton going for long balls all the time? We don't need the big plays evern series. Was it a statement for style points?
-There were several mistakes with personal and taking too much time to get the play in. This is uncalled for when it happens 3-4 time every game.

My biggest concern for future games:
GET the running game going. I thought the LA Tech game was a good game to get the OL some run blocking practice and get some good PT to Scott and Williams. Help them to see holes and help with their vision of the field.

I think we may need to rely more on our running game for the remainder of the season to take the pressure off Flynn. I like the aggressive play calling with lots of passing, but it takes Flynn several series to get into a rhythm. I would like to seem more running at the starts to open up the passing game.

You're finally on board. Finally you make some sense, SF. :hihi:

Great points. I think our passing game will be inconsistent the rest of the season so we need to run the ball a little more often on first down to get better down/distance ratios in the later downs. I think that would help our 3rd down conversion percentage.

    Re: Our Offense

In response to a deleted SF message...

I'd say we aren't one of the best teams ever, but we are one of the best teams this season. Most of us think LSU should strive to be one of the best teams ever, obviously you are fine with winning all but one of our games this season. Please note that this last statement is mostly tongue in cheek.

I understand your position, but it is fun to talk about why we aren't playing like the one of the best teams in the history of college football. We are a strong team, but we are very beatable, and if you fashion yourself a college football enthusiast, discussing our flaws is an honest and noble pursuit.

I imagine everyone on here enjoys watching our tigers play. That some of us like to delve a little deeper into the nuts and bolts of what is happening shouldn't be Poo-Pood. I somewhat appreciate your cantankerous commentary though, it gets the discussion flowing.

We are definitely a frustrating team to watch, especially int he first half. But, GREAT teams find ways to win when they're not playing their best. We've been doing this for almost 2 months now. Hopefully, we'll be able to put complete game together from this point forward. If not, and we keep winning like we have been all the way through to the NC, I'll take it and be happy.

Ok so we are starting off games slow so is it a problem with the players not being emotional ready to play...Is it poor game planning during the week....is it gameplanning for something that the other team isnt showing during the season and they only break out when they play us?

The evidence is not just in the scores it is greatly apparent in the stats as an offense we are more productive by leaps and bounds in the 2nd half then in the 1st.

I haven't done an analysis, but are we getting substantially more turnovers and penalties in the 1st half versus the 2nd half?

Has it gotten into the players heads that they can sleepwalk through the 1st half and then turn it on in the 2nd half? Since they've done it so many times it might be food for thought.

Ok since we are going to try to stay on topic here...

It could be pregame jitters that leads to beginning of the game jitters. Once they settle down they are way settled and cannot be rattled.

Now whose fault this is I can't say. Or do I believe at this moment that it is anybody inparticulars fault, I can't say this for sure either.

We did put a full game together against Va Tech and it was one of the most perfect football games I have ever seen at least at the college level. Is it unrealistic to think I should see this every week? YES! But I also do find it strange that we see it only in the beginning of a game.

So again I don't have the answers but would like to hear others opinions relative TO THE TOPIC so maybe I can sort through mine better.

Flynn and the passing game continues to be a big issue. Maybe the receivers are still a big part of the problem but Flynn doesn't always make the best decisions on where to throw the ball. Maybe the line plays a part in the problem, but I think they are mostly doing their job. Also, maybe Crowton needs to run the ball more on first down, because I remember us throwing on first down a lot last night, which kind of forced us to throw on second and third down, especially with the inconsistency of our passing game.

Not a bad point but why does the problem seem to be worse in the beginning of the game?

Last night I kinda figured the coaches were letting Flynn "air" it out a little bit more then usual because of our oppenent. I could be wrong and I didn't get to watch the beginning of the game so take that for what it is worth (not much) I f that was the case then I am not completely against it...he hits a couple of big ones and his confidence goes up along with his receivers. Can't think of a better thing then a confident QB and receiving team going into the final strech of regular season.

OK, go ahead and call me crazy, and I know this isn't it BUT it almost seems like the game plan for the past few weeks is

:insane:"I Dunno. Let's see what the opponent does, and then we'll see if we can figure out how to beat 'em.":insane:

It used to seem like we came out with a plan and worked the plan successfully from start to finish, but I swear it's now more like we not acting, but reacting all the time.

Maybe the coaches should let the players think that pregame warmups are really the first quarter. I wonder how many plays it would take us to score in warmups?

Still, it's hard to be too upset as long as we keep winning. I'm more concerned about special teams than the offense.:eek:ldskule:
