Re: Our Offense I will be more comfortable if we own all four quarters! Seriously, it is nice that they can come up with strong performances in the 4th quarter; but if they have been dominating on the offense on the getgo, they you don't need to bank on the 4th quarter to come back! Not too good for the heart..........
Re: Our Offense Thats what makes this a problem. And if I remember correctly yesterday you said that if we play this way next year with all our hard games on the road we are gonna have trouble winning. [qoute] Where would you rather be right now....b*tching about LSU's slow starts and a 9-1 record, or being a Florida fan thinking about what could have been had they played better in the 4th quarter against us?[/QUOTE] I am not bitching by no means about the team and its play. I brought up a topic that I thought needs to be discussed. I do get fustrated by the people who assume that everything is always perfectly colored purple and gold and there is no need or worry to impove on what we do wrong BECAUSE WE ALWAYS PULL IT OUT IN THE END!
Re: Our Offense very close..... things do start up front with the Line of Scrimmage. dominating this is a HUGE factor on how the game will go. We've had some trouble with protecting Flynn at times. run blocking is adequate, Pass blocking could be better. Our WR's, RB's and TE's block great, its the OL that could step up just a little, so Flynn wouldnt have to get out of trouble so much. with the level of talent we've recruited, Tech shouldnt be getting to the QB, only the top teams we face should be able to do that and then not often.
Re: Our Offense You're right, but so is he. While I'll agree with you about the teams being "quality" and not as easy as Tech, what I wont agree with is lack of performance/focus in the first Qtr no matter who we play, ie the proverbial "slow start". You cant blame that on quality SEC opponents. One or two games sure, but it shouldnt be a thing you can hang your hat on. People shouldnt look at each other and say, " oh LSU always starts off slow, no worries we'll own the 4th". While that may sound comforting, it shouldnt be a game plan. Even if by accident/unknowingly. And yeah I'd rather have slow starts than not have a chance at the BCS NC, but if the slow starts bite us later and its OUR fault, ie we "give it away", I'm not sure it is all that much better. The wheels arent about to come off this wagon,. but the first half of the game is not the time to change a flat either, that should be done in practice.
Re: Our Offense I've made it point not to complain/worry about wins. Seems to do my mind well since I only worried one time this season.
Re: Our Offense I continue to read this thread and have not piped in because I couldn't figure out exactly where I stood and couldn't completely defend either side. So with that said js's post got me thinking. One of the things I have heard FSU fans complain about here for the years I have lived in Florida is that they are a second half team. They say they always have been and before they didn't want to bitch about it because they were winning, now that those days are gone it REALLY pisses them off. The answer? Crap, I don't know. After typing this post I am still as confused as I was before. I think we are as good as we thought or think we are/were and I believe that it may be a slight bit of nerves in the start of the games. I haven't worried about it too bad because it hasn't gotten out of control and of course we seem to pull it off more times then not. But in the other had I think it is worth discussing because I would hate to be one of these FSU fans in 10 years saying, well wait to the second half and then watching my team improve but still not win. So after that long azz post I helped the conversation not one bit. Sorry for the waste of time but I feel better!
Re: Our Offense Yeah, I know what I said, but that didn't pertain to this particular problem. I was thinking more along the lines of the mistakes, turnovers, everything. I am also not worried about next season until next season.
Re: Our Offense so starting out slow on the road is not included in those? I do agree with that but this is a problem that could be something that might spill over, WHICH if it does then I think this is a problem that should be moved to the coaches and their abilities to prepare the team.
Re: Our Offense For someone that was not sure what to post, you just summed it up with this. It was not a problem while they were winning! Why have people NOT been concerned with this, BECAUSE we have been winning! Thats not an excuse to IGNORE a problem that is present.
Re: Our Offense FWIW, I've been watching A LOT of college ball this season--it's really the only thing I can do, lol. I've been watching, and rewatching, and analyzing and reanalyzing just about everything and I see teams with all sorts of problems. However, Crip, I have to agree with you. I haven't seen any teams with problems that are as automatic as LSU's slow starts. It's almost something you can bank on. What's the reason/problem then? I honestly think it's the gameplanning and gamecalling. I think, as a team, we have piss-poor gameplanning. It's as if they call the games on the fly. I think FLynn tries to do too much instead of simply managing the offense. I also wonder if they spend much time practicing formations and play changes in practice, because it's evident on the field that they're confused at times with personnel changes. i.e. Perrilloux coming in. What's the reasoning, I don't know, and I don't think that anyone here truly knows. The coaches probably don't even know what the deal is--otherwise I believe that they'd change it. Maybe they just can't get things "right" in the game. They may just be slow starters. Maybe with so much talent, there are ego problems? That clearly DOESN'T seem to be the case, but truly I'm befuddled. I will say, though, that LSU is consistent in its inadequacies. Look at teams like BC, OSU, VA Tech, Florida, Auburn, UK, ASU, USC... they all have a myriad of problems for teams that were (or are) in contention for a BCS bowl. At least you kinda know what to expect from LSU--a slow start. NOt that that answers anything at all...
