NCAA regs say you must have 12 teams to have a championship game. Plus, every Pac-10 team plays each other.
There still seems to be a major disparity out here when it comes to this league v. other leagues. If you look at the BCS poll, the PAC-10 only has 3 ranked teams in it. Not trying to take anything away from them, but I feel like our schedule has been brutal this year. As pointed out elsewhere, if Arkansas is ranked by the time we meet up with them, we will have played 9 ranked teams this year. That is outrageous and really should count for something. As I look at the SEC, I see what I usually see. Schools beating each other. Only LSU has been able to rise above that scenario, and barely at that. USC isn't that strong this year. Cal turned out to be a pretender. I am not convinced that ASU is that strong. Oregon has looked good, but by and large, the PAC-10 looks a bit like the punk-10 this year, i.e., not very strong. Maybe I am biased.
Add the Big10 and Big East to that list. But even with that, it's a double edged sword. Tell Michigan it's ashamed Florida was forced to play that excruciating SEC CG last season. Tell Oregon this season about LSU playing a top 6 Georgia team catapulting them into the NC ahead of Oregon (if Oregon jumps us in the BCS before that game). It goes both ways. Ultimately I would like to see each BCS conference with 12 teams and a CG.
I hope the homers who think just winning is enough to get us to the national championship game reads this thread! In pro football you can afford to win ugly but someone in our position trying to make it to the national championship game is another story.
I agree completely. A one loss Oregon team will be on the outside looking in if a one loss LSU team beats yet another quality opponent in the SECCG. As for Kansas, the nice thing about their schedule is playing a pretty solid Missouri team AND Oklahoma and then maybe the Big XII championship game (also against Oklahoma.) If they lose any of those two or three games, I don't think the voters will put them above a one loss LSU team.
OU will beat Kansas, no doubt about it. Nebraska hung 34 points on KU's defense. The no offense Huskers put 34 on them. OU beats KU convincingly in the Big 12 CG. Oregon will not lose another game, therefore we must have convincing wins against our remaining schedule.
Yeah, that Arkansas-Tennessee game is a big one for LSU's chances. Kansas still has two big games left with (near) top 5 teams, assuming Oklahoma and Missouri don't lose in advance. It would be interesting to see how LSU/Kansas shakes out, assuming both win out, but I'd rather not have to sweat it. It will be nice if those Tigers from Mizzou help out their Bayou Bengal brethren Thanksgiving weekend.
Is it even possible for Oregon to jump us because we play an extra game that they dont? And i expect missouri to beat kansas and take care of the one other undefeated problem. But i still agree that from here on out, style points are going to be very important.
