I think this may be a case of expectations. The defense was so dominant early on, that expectations for a tough SEC run were out of whack. And you're right on about the offense. Strong offense, even considering turnovers and penalties. But the penalties have got to be corrected.
I agree with you on that. I had thought they "overkilled" by calling that play when it's inches to go. The way they have been running, they could have gotten the 1st down. I like the term that you used that described the passion :thumb: Did the absence of RP affected the game? In running the option, RP has a more explosive pop than Flynn, and has mostly been effective. RP's fake run and pass play has so far not been too effective; they may have to modify or work on it. Still a lot of football to go, and always room for improvement for the team.
I don't have the breakout, but I thought the run game up the middle was pretty strong. Bama was able to string out most of the stuff around the ends, but Hester was bruising them up the middle. I'm not second guessing - we had a ton of offense. I do wonder, though, if gaining another 50-75 yards running up the middle would have opened up some of the other facets of the game more. Might also have reduced some of the interceptions. All pure conjecture. WE WON!!!!! :geaux:
That was a great angle to the strategy from CParso. One question I have is would that be effective when you are in the your opponents homefield?
this is 100% accurate. The lack of PRE- Play execution alone ( 5 yrd penalties ) is simply lack of practice and prepartion on this one thing. We look confussed at times out there when we line up. the other penalties are WAY too numerous also. Guys I hate to say it but this is how I see it, if we played like we were capable of, We'd be WAY ahead in the polls, No one could even come close. As it is, any given day with some luck, any team we play can squeek in because we let them hang around due to our own mistakes. I love my Tigers but thats a fact right there. and 110% of that is coaching. It's not just penalties, its play calling, Its Crowton using the running attack, clock management, procedure issues, # of men in the game issues....etc. Some big challenges are coming up. Hopefully we can correct this and DOMINATE the next few opponents and roll into the SECCG full of confidence. Everyone around here who wears P & G glasses and cringes at threads like this should realize that "just winning" barely will eventually bite you in the Arse. Style points and domination help you in the polls and points. and here is the big one, IT IS A confidance builder in the team players so that the further the season goes, the better they play. Miles is definately keeping our record going though, he and his staff find a way to win and he gives the players the credit. I like CLM he is good for LSU. I have a feeling he is aware of all this stuff, how can he nit be? I would imagine he IS coaching to fix the stuff, but somehow it sneaks back in. ( Penalties ) someone here suggested a different method. There's where I think Miles could be a little more open to fixing the "small" stuff. yes it's small stuff, the problem is we can't afford to let the small stuff get by in the NCAA anymore. That being said, I'm tickled we got the win! :geauxtige
I wonder if it is because of that that they were not running Keiland and Scott that much. They did put in Richard Murphy on several occasions but not too effective. Maybe it is due to something they saw in the game, or for other reasons they have seen in their own practice that made the coaches do that. They should always be picking the play that they think has the highest success percentage given the situation. There is no doubt in Tiger nation that the penalty issues has got to be corrected. You can see from Mile's face at the newsconference that, despite the win and being given the game ball by his team, he was seriously pissed about the penalties.
The men who wear the white shirts with the black stripes control the the tempo of the game . It was hard for Bama to get a call , I am not saying the men with the black strips on their white were cheating they were hust watching LUS a little closer than they were Bama . I think on any O play a call can be made . When you start getting calls against you it will mess you up GEAUX tIGERS !!
...and the bogus face mask call, but other than that your'e right. Most were legit penalty calls on us. We just look sloppy at times.
I often wonder about this reason people give coaches the "extra eyes credit" something they saw in the game. And of course that is entirely possible but I wonder if they don't over analyze and look for gimics when we should just line up and play our game of smash mouth football.
As most of you know, I've kinda adopted the Tigers while I wait for my Hawkeyes to get out of their funk... Sometimes it's like watching a ball of yarn unravel... and I'm not even a die-hard. I keep waiting for that game where it all comes together... and the moments of self-destructing stop. It's a damn good thing you got the talent to overcome the errors. And that stunt offensive shift thingy on fourth and inches... come on, this is LSU... It's almost like Miles has to "insert himself" into every game. I'm not sure that's always a good thing for the team.
