I went to Ratt a few weeks ago at Hard Rock and Whitesnake a few weeks before that at IP.
Whitesnake had better musicians but Pearcy can still sing somewhat, Coverdale not so much.
He should quit while he can still talk.

Been about a year and a half, Billy Joel in New Orleans. Unless YYNOT, originally a Rush tribute project but now an up and coming prog rock act with their own material, comes to South LA, I suspect my concert days are over.

I urge you to discover YYNOT. They are on the threshold of hitting it big in their own rite, but I believe they are also the best Rush cover group out there. The amazing thing is that the guitarist, drummer and lead singer are based in Cali, but the bassist is in Florida. That's why most of their "studio" cover videos are 4 solo cams. But on more than one occasion when playing together live, they've been in a position where they've looked at each other and said, "hey, does everyone know 'The Body Electric' (for example)?......OK, 1, 2, 3....." No rehearsal, just hit it.

I haven't seen any big name acts in quite some time. They are usually held in a large venue like the Smoothie King Center. Reasonably priced tickets are in the nosebleed section and good seats are hundreds of dollars. So when I see somebody it's usually a mid major or FCS equivalent act. I caught the Radiators at Tipitina's last year. Sonny Landreth is playing this Friday night at the Manship Center in Baton Rouge and I can get good seats for either $50 or $60 so I'll probably go.

Joe Bonamassa is at some casino in Biloxi in November and decent seats are around $120 so I might go to that and hope I don't lose a bundle at the blackjack table.

Yea, I thought it was awesome. One of the lead organizers for the boil is good friends with the band. Did a private set at his house party a couple of nights before which was a lot of fun. They made a huge splash at the boil and were a significant upgrade to line ups past. Pray they come back next year.

Bob Seger early May. Epic, old dude still has it.

I was going to post this the other day and this just reminded me.

One of the casinos here is running a spot for some dude that is a Prince cover guy and I just don't get it. It really doesn't matter if he looks just like him, sounds just like him, it's not him. Same goes for all of those Elvis impersonators. I just don't get it.

If you can't get CBM the Radiators would be a good choice for a crawfish boil. They are from New Orleans but they live in California now.

I guess its like going to a movie about an historic event. Obviously its not the event, its just a way to relive it.

I haven't seen any of the Rush cover bands live, but I've watched a lot of youtube clips. There's only one out there that goes for the look as well as the sound. That's the Rush Tribute Project. They don't quite pull it off. YYNOT makes no attempt at the look; hell, there's 4 of them, and the lead singer is a girl. But no one else does them as well as far as musicianship. Plus, as I said, they do originals too. Already one album on the market, and the second is in the works. Put it this way, Rushradio.com started playing them earlier this month. They are "the only band on Rush radio that's not Rush." (quote from the announcement) Here's their best from the first album.
