He will fine. Last weeks matchup was hard as they moved receivers in and out of certain positions. It is hard for a young guy to remember hius rules for certain players and formations. He just needs experience.

Danny McCray is a beast and will be just fine. He was playing out of position the entire game. He is a strong safety by background and because he is one of the faster guys on the team they have been using him in coverage quite a bit. The problem is, he has rarely had to play man in his life as a corner. Put a guy out of position in a defensive scheme he isn't used to playing against a very good receiver and what do you expect? Earlier in the year when he was playing safety he had 11 tackles, a pick, a sack, and a fumble recovery in one game. Next year with Steltz gone and playing at his natural position, he will be a huge part of the defense.

How many freshman do you know who are good enough to have come in here and played in every game on as good of a defense as we had last year? Give the guy a break...

Fortunately, McCray's coverage ability won't be an issue again till the SECCG. LaTech is nothing special. Ole Miss is Ole Miss. Danny will need to buckle his chinstrap a little tighter against the Hogs to stop #5 and #25, but coverage shouldn't be a big problem since their passing game consists only of throwing jump balls to Marcus Monk.

Then comes, I'm guessing, Stafford and Georgia with a balanced offense, good wideouts and good tight ends. Hopefully McCray will have improved his coverage skills by then so the Tigers can blitzkrieg Mattie all over the place and make him eat Georgia Dome field-turf in a lopsided Tiger victory.

Then the Luckeyes and Todd Boeckman. Poor Luckeyes. Poor Boeckman. Poor Big 10. DESTRUCTION! :angryfire

Yeah I agree with most posters here. He has played really well until this last game. He'll learn from it and be a better player for it. He is beastly.

McCray is one of the few players on the team along with Dorsey who has played consistent ball all season. He had a bad game agaisnt Bama no doubt about it. He was exploited on a few occassions. A lot of the blame for that goes to the coaching staff. Its their job to bring in the proper players and formations to counter act what the opposing O is doing.

I think you are right about him getting to play his position. When he gets to play strong safety I think he will be very good, but it will be awhile before he will be able to play man on top WR's. He will get there though, as a freshman he is impressive.

Has he had to cover man on WR's with other teams. I jsut don't remember seeing him giving up plays like the Bama game.

I think with him and Jones playing safety it should be fun to watch.

McCray is used more as a strong safety, but he has played well in coverage until the Bama game. He is a soph, he had a good bit of PT last year.
