I DVR'd last night's game and was struck with how bad our kick coverage is. Not to mention we got gashed last week by Alabama, coupled with the fact that I heard yesterday that there is only one other SEC team besides us(can't remember who) that hasn't had a kick returned for a TD this year.
I was just about to post something about our Special Teams. I remember a few years back when the opposing team was lucky to get to the 25 yard line. I wonder if it has to do with the kicker not being able to kick it past the 10. They need to step it up and start tackling people.
seems to be a theme here. i think the answer is to get someone who is not a linebackers coach first and a special teams coach second which is what we have right now.
I think the kicker was kicking it deep, it seemed rest of the team was not running towards the correct side of the field. It was alarming we have to a better job in order to pursue our dream.
That other team is Georgia. It's been mentioned a couple of times recently, but I don't see how important that statistic is. I do see how important our lack of kick coverage is, however.
If you notice the numbers of the guys on last night's KO return team you'll see that a lot of guys were getting their only PT of the season on special teams...seniors who wouldn't be able to get in against Arkansas so Miles rewarded them with some playing time. I don't think that is the only reason but on a few of the big returns it looked like our wedge busters didn't get down the field as fast as they typically do, and it wasn't our regular guys.
Thanks Luke, that makes sense and also explains the less than stellar coverage. Actually, I feel much better about that now. I'll go back and watch more closely! Thanks. ldskule:
I say we call Frank the Tank Beamer, for advice...send him some of our Game film, an about 10lbs of Boudin and cracklins...
Did we have backups in the secondary as well???I would feel much better if you said yes....:geaux: :crystal: :geaux:
