I have noticed that Keiland Williams normally is in the game when Ryan comes in @ QB.It seems like the offense play packages are mostly disgned with him along side RP.I guess next year he is the guy with Scott coming in as change up.
I disagree with this. He hit the hole pretty freaking good against VT. The thing is, is that he has not gotten enough touches for us to make any type of judgement. Earlier a poster said he was hesitant when hitting the hole. I will try and look closer for this when the few times he DOES touch the ball.
Yeah I'm not seeing why you guys are saying he can't get inside yards or he's hitting the hole too slow? I have not noticed that at all and I'm watching the same game as you guys. But even his harshest critics cannot possibly give me a good reason why he had only one carry against Kentucky and against Auburn.
Hester is the best in CFB in getting tough yards. Scott, KW, and Murphy can't get tough yards that Hester can. Now in space they are quicker and get more yards. The reason Hester is able to do this, he is extremely strong in the lower body, leans forward while he runs, and gets so low to the ground that nobody can get underneath him for a good hit. He will get 3 yards after the initial hit everytime, unless you get him from the side. The OL wasn't opening up a lot of holes on the run plays and Hester had to make some thing out of nothing. But I agree, I think we need to get KW and Scott the ball more often and don't know why we didn't try more in the Bama and Auburn games. Of course if LSU had done like Saban and kept running the ball even though it has been unsuccessful all night, we would be furious now. I think if Crowton sees the OL making good holes, I think we may run more. But I also think he is biased towards throwing the ball. That is his M.O. more so than running. In the end, we need to run more.
Which would support what I've said about him running well in space, not between the tackles. Something happened to him and I'm not sure what but he shows some kind of fear of being hit- in his running. They don't, however, have the same "Types" of yardage. Scott and run up the gut too- I know he has some yardage bouncing it to the outside too but he can do both; whereas, you don't see the coaches giving it to KW on a dive. I had said KW would rewrite the record books and I'm surprised he hasn't had even more of an impact on our offense and I'm sure the coaches are seeing the same thing at practice, that I mentioned above. With my preseason expectations for KW, I also didn't realize how good Scott was going to be and Murphy's not bad himself. I've always liked Hester and felt, since the Peach Bowl, he didn't NEARLY get enough credit but I am glad to see him get it this year- he's even exceeded my expectations and I thought he was pretty darn good. He's saved our butts on many occassions. I agree and I don't mean to be a "Critic" of his, I'm actually a big fan of his. I know he's very gifted.
Whoa! Hester graduates and it's Williams and Scotts position next year. They ain't going anyhere. LSU is a deep team and deep teams win championships, but you have to wait your turn to start. But when you get to play, you're playing for a contender . . . in the spotlight. That's a hell of a lot better than starting at McNeese.
I agree with what most are saying here. My rotation would be Williams and Hester getting most of the touches, with Scott spelling Hester and Murphy spelling Williams. Williams gives us our best home run hitter on the field. It's not like he has trouble with fumbles. His career average is well over 5 yards per carry (maybe close to 6, actually). I just don't see how you go away from that type of production.
I agree with all of yall. I think the reason we aren't seeing him is that he still has 2 years left to play. When you go to recruit a RB, I'm sure you are going and telling them that they will get their chance to shine. Hester is in his senior year and this is his time to show NFL scouts what he can do. KW still has 2 years to do that.
Hester has nearly as many carries as Williams, Scott, Murphy, and Holliday, combined, and 25 more than the first three! To me, that is not making the best use of your personnel, especially considering the way Williams played last year. Hester is a good player and a heck of a short yardage back, but the other guys, especially Williams and Scott, have special abilities. Those two are averaging 7 yards a carry. Scott ran all over Kentucky for a half. Looked like a coming out party. Then gets 8 measly carries over the next 10 quarters and three OT's?
Well, when Scott and Williams come in, they have fresh legs and are not banged up. I'd like to see them more, too, and we will as the season grows long. Hester needs to stay healthy for the SECCG and bowl season and the reserve backs will likely see the ball more in this last few games. Hester is a rare four-year starter and has earned his position. He has won several games for us this year. He's a senior and it's his year to shine. As long as he's healthy and effective . . . and he is . . . he should start and get the most PT. Williams and Scott know that when they have paid their dues and are are effective seniors, that they won't have their carries cut just because some hot young running back is eager for his shot.
