I went to college for journalism 30 years ago, and the business was already full of people who were saying,"I want to be a reporter because I want to make a difference." Wrong, you go into journalism to report the truth. You want to make a difference? Become a teacher, or a doctor, or a cop, or - heaven help us - run for office.
