Here is the link, www.prointerviews.org/DByrd (I know that I've never been here before but my name is Max Strauss and I'm a high school senior. I might be attending LSU in the fall actually, but that's not why I'm here. When I toured campus, I got to meet Demetrius, but I interviewed him a year before that. I started a site two years ago called Pro Interviews where I interview professional athletes and I have gotten loads of success.) Here is an older interview that I did with with Demetrius Byrd. He told me recently that he is planning to come back into the NFL. I am planning to talk with him again and update our interview. Please leave question suggestions below... the more the merrier! Thank you, -Max Strauss-
That picture on the wall behind them, with the catch he made from Flynn against Auburn was legendary.
Nah, Rogie Magee would be "former," as in "played for us, but what did he ever do?" D-Byrd provided one of the most memorable moments of one of the greatest Tiger seasons ever. He wasn't great, but I believe delivering that moment qualifies for "legendary", in the context of sports hype. Kind of like Brian Milne for the Saints ("Hakeem drops the ball! Hakeem drops the ball!").
That whole season for D'Byrd was an amazing season. He had a bunch of big catches. Everyone likes to remember Chad Jones' fumble recovery against Alabama that year, but how many catches and touchdowns did D Byrd have? I think he only had 1 TD but he had something like 6 or 7 catches for over 140 yards. DByrd's junior season was legendary in my opinion.
That was also the only 100 yard game he had in his career. I agree that that one play against Auburn was the stuff of legends, and it was a great catch, but I would hardly call Demetrius Byrd a legendary LSU receiver. He has 1100 yards in his career. I don't know where that puts him on the all-time list, but I know it's WAY outside the top 10. Andy Hamilton is 10th with 1,995 yards from '69-'71. I feel like I'm knocking the guy, which really wasn't my intent. He was a good player for us, and I liked him.
Let me change my position then. Demetrius' junior season is legendary in my mind. Thinking back on receivers since I have been really following LSU football, Demetrius would rank in my top 10. As a matter of fact, I will just list my top 10. 1. Dwayne Bowe 2. Josh Reed 3. Wendell Davis 4. Michael Clayton 5. Eddie Fuller 6. Early Doucet 7. Craig Davis 8. Reuben Randle 9. Eddie Kennison 10. Demetrius Byrd i'm probably leaving a bunch off but that's just off the top of my dome early in the morning, without coffee or dr. pepper yet.
