An interesting take on ND and the Huskers from Ivan Maisel...

"As Notre Dame and Nebraska plummet toward the bottom of their respective history books, as the Fighting Irish and the Cornhuskers find out how the other half has lived for the past few decades, their fans share a great many emotions: embarrassment, humiliation, disgust."

"What they don't share is a solution. Notre Dame is not entertaining the idea of firing Weis. There isn't a soul between Scottsbluff and Omaha who believes Bill Callahan should or will return to run the Huskers next season."

"Notre Dame has fallen farther, and faster, than Nebraska."

notre dame 119 out of 120 d1 teams in pts/game (with the offensive genius and top recruiting class).

120th (dead last) in total yards.

115th in passing yards with the qb trio of clausen, moe and curley.

    119th in rushing yards.

While I agree that the 9 and 10 win seasons which preceeded ND's 1 win this year (so far) is a main reason for not firing him I don't agree that his "embracing the culture" at ND is the other. The irish won't consider getting rid of Weiss at this point because he's an alum! You treat your own a little different.

I thought that, too, that and the amount it'd cost to buy out Weis.

Have to wonder though, what Ty Willingham is thinking about all this.

I have to wonder what NBC execs are thinking about this.

If they were smart they work a deal with the Pac 10 like CBS has with the SEC. If not them, at least one of the BCS conferences.

The only problem with that is the NBC contract with the Irish was extended to 2010.

CBS & ABC are laughing all the way to the bank.

I wonder how that is structured. Add to that, I wonder what the Arbitron ratings have been this year. It would seem they would have some sort of out clause.

I'd bet they are counting on the recruiting rankings right now as much as ND fans are. Can you see the NBC exec checking Rivals/Scout every day just to see who has committed?
