i agree with the majority of what you've posted but to say bama was at rock bottom a year after winning 10 games is a little much. as for LSU...dinardo took over a team at rock bottom, and did a little something with it. as i've said before probably had a team with at least 8 win talent his last two yrs but didn't produce. maybe i'm just being a picky db on your word selection.
Better winning record in the same time span. Saban never strung two 10-win seasons together, Miles strung three. Better recruiting, Saban averaged 3.6 stars a player, Miles 3.8 stars. Saban is more articulate, better looking, and kind of a prick. Miles is more honest, a players coach, and . . . kind of a prick. Who is better? Pick one. The point is . . . we are unlikely to get three straight coaches that average 10 wins a season, recruit in the top 10, and have won crystal footballs. Sometime you get Cholly. sometimes you get Curley.
During Sabans Time at LSU he only won 1 more SEC game than Miles, 1... Saban has a better West record than Miles, but Miles has the better Bowl record. Overall win wise, Miles beats out Saban. Other than Homer eyes, some fans, including myself, see the personal traits of a coach as other things that weigh in the argument. Numbers, the 2 coaches are very close. Respect, class and integrity, Saban couldn't touch Miles.
To add, it wasnt like Saban walked into bama with 1* rejects. Bama did have around top 15-20 talent in recent recruiting years just before Saban.
Specifically, Alabama's Rivals recruiting rankings & W/L record (excluding vacated wins) were: > 2007 = #10 (W=7/L=6) --- Saban Started at Alabama on 01/2007 > 2006 = #11 (W=6/L=7) > 2005 = #18 (W=10/L=2) > 2004 = #15 (W=6/L=6) It was the year's before that which had poor recruiting... > 2003 = #49 (W/L = 4/9) > 2002 = #30 (W/L = 10/3) Who knows? After USC gets off of probation, Saban may be ready to move to the west coast.
