Should the Tigers get in the NCG and play OS, the Ohio state fans better bring plenty of crying towels along, because I see a repeat of last years NCG. Boy, I bet the last thing in the world they wanna face is another SEC school after all that!!!
The polls are a fickled thing, aren't they? Yesterday's news, in a way.... When the polls come out today, it may show that LSU's best win was over the 15th ranked team (Florida), so where these teams were ranked back in September means less and less as the season wears on. The good news is you're winning... actually very much in the same manner as tOSU did in 2002 or even how you did it in 2003. I'd be nervous about Oregon only because they have a lot of flash and have done what they are suppose to do to get recognized. However, the bigger issue might be the Big 12. They may have four teams in the top 12 this week. If Kansas gets to the Big 12 Championship undefeated, it might be a 3 versus 4 or 4 versus 5 by that time. You may need Georgia to win out, so you get to beat a #6 team in the SEC Championship... beating a 3 or 4 loss Tn or Fla at that time may not be enough if there are undefeateds out there... or a one loss Oklahoma blows out undefeated Kansas while you're beating up a 3 loss, say, Tennessee. First things first... win out... and quit tripping over yourself doing it!!!
I hope we're #2, but can't fault anyone for thinking Oregon looks better than we do at this point. Believe it or not, the world is not out to get LSU.
I don't know where you got this information from, but Herbstreit put us #2 in his poll and even told us congratulations and said that all we have to do now is win out. Why did you post this?
I reported what he said on TV. I don't care what he puts in writing. He says something different, knowing that he won't be as responsible for off-the-cuff comments (probably really reflecting what he thinks, instead of his better-considered written words). Do you think I'm being unfair to good ol' Kirk? Are you his mama? If he comes back to Baton Rouge and he tells me he thinks LSU is #2 this week, I'll apologize.
Arkansas looked great yesterday. If they beat Tennessee and Miss State as well, they will probably finish in the top 15. That victory (if we beat Arkansas), plus a victory against Georgia (we need them to win out) in the SEC championship game would be great for us. Oregon will most likely win out, but against pitiful teams like Arizona, UCLA, and Oregon State. Non of them will help Oregon. If they jump us for now, if we win out we will jump them. I still think O-high-hoe state will lose. I also don't count out the possibility of a rematch of LSU and OK in New Orleans. I predicted that earlier in the year, so I am still sticking to it.
Am I his momma? For telling you that he had us at number 2? It isn't "in writing". He said it on national TV on ESPN. Mark May is the one that put Oregon #2. And I don't need an apology, just a post with some merit would be nice. I am NO Kirk the jerk fan, but he has given us more love this year than he EVER has. Thanks for the snide remark. I am definitely not YOUR momma...or you would have learned how not to be such a smart alec. I don't recall saying anything to you to warrant that kind of comment.
As an LSU fan, I have been on the bad end of "the team you just beat was overrated, so you're not that good" argument enough times that I'm not going to pull that card out. ASU is a much better team than people will give them credit for because they don't get as much coverage as teams east of the west coast receive and because the caliber of team they've been playing hasn't been up to SEC/ACC standards. They have been winning games like they should be. Those teams would probably whip Tulane, a team that beat LSU for a half of football. While the score doesn't reflect it, Oregon owned that game from start to finish, which is something that LSU hasn't done since VaTech (not counting MTSU who onbly technically qualifies as an opponnet) and that's a problem.
