Hence the pressure to over sign. That's why I'm not so upset at Bama and Saban for doing it. Kids get cut from high school teams all the time...they understand when it happens in college.

Commitments should be only for juniors...seniors should be able to sign LOIs anytime in their senior year (with escape clauses for grades, coaching changes, amputations, etc.).

It's insane to put the universities in the position of having to wait until NSD and hope that recruits are true to their word. The universities are probably spending tens of thousands of $$ per signee, and thousands per recruit...

...all for stupid hat trick ceremonies and airport reneging.

    Excellent points SC.

Most of our recruits never flinched and would have been happy signing much earlier. Basketball shows early signing to be nothing but a positive, yet schools allow all this mess to continue.

Nothing wrong with kids proving they can play football at the college level. An added problem, anyone remember lawsuits brought against universities, by recruits, because they were released from their multi-year scholly? Many were academic and personal conduct issues. That is how we got to the one year deal.

Won't work. If you let them sign as seniors, then National signing day becomes September 1st with the same stupid hat trick ceremonies etc... As soon as they are eligible, the coaches will start signing 'em. Having it after their senior season at least gives them a little chance to shine in the Fall and turn some heads.

They don't have to sign and teams don't have to sign them. We had a boatload of kids from Reggie Ragland on, that couldn't care less about all the pomp and circumstances. They'll be many sleepers that turn heads later and so what. Sign them later. Trying to juggle 25 recruits is what is causing all the friction. And it does work, basketball players show that.

The "hat" ceremonies that aren't driven by the date. You HAVE to set a date. No matter what date you set, the ceremonies will happen.

It is the competition for the coaches to lock up the talent as quickly as possible that will drive the schools to fill all of their scholarships on signing day. I think that Basketball recruiting dynamics are just different because of the numbers of scholarships and number of positions involved. With football, it will only push the date back further which punishes the kids and makes it worse as far as judging talent.

Quick question Tusk, two players gave early verbals to Bama, Justin Taylor and Justin Thomas. Why didn't these guys sign?

Edit to add: I did see where one went to Ky and the other Ga. Tech.

Edit again: Did see the write-up on the Ky kid. What about the other to Ga. Tech.?

Did you know that Ga. Tech. doesn't have a girls soccer team?

Philon went to Arkansas. I gave my personal feelings somewhere on this kid already. How did you feel when Porter bit the greyshirt trail? I'm hearing that Kentucky had to make room and offered, an all of a sudden greyshirt. Kid went to Central Florida. Wouldn't it be ironic if they were making room for Taylor?

Gotta edit to cover your edits. Thomas wasn't a greyshirt. He simpy wanted to play QB and Bama recruited him as an athlete. Interesting on the girls soccer team thing.

    Philon, don't know him......

Porter? Hes now at LSU, we talking the same kid?

Mo Isom told me that one, when I ask why she didn't go to Ga. Tech., being from the same area. I ask why Tech. wasn't in her top 5 schools.

Edit to add: Did see Philon you're talking about, don't know his story. I did see where he was one of 7 DE's signed by Ark. Thats a bunch of DE's.
