I have to admit I was not an Aranda fan when he was at LSU and I thought he was going to flop at Baylor, but he has proven me wrong. I have to give him credit because Baylor, with all of its scandals, isn't the easiest place to coach. I thought his laid back demeanor would not translate well to recruits, but it didn't seem to faze him one bit. Then when you take into consideration all of the other schools that he has to recruit against, like Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Houston and TCU to name just a few, it's a tough job. Hats off to him and his staff. He did one heck of a job and deserves to be recognized!
Who said the 2019 Defense was not very good & wanted a 4-3 "Attacking Defense"? Effectively running Aranda out of town & to phone hire Bo Pelini.
Not true, Orgeron did not drive Aranda off! Oeaux’s talk about an “Attacking Defense” came after Aranda departed. Aranda was getting a promotion to HC and a big pay day. There is nothing that Oeaux could have done or said to make him want to stay.
I’m on the “they agreed to part ways” bandwagon. O wanted his own guy in there and probably made that indirectly clear to Aranda. I think Aranda might have stayed if O was interested in fighting for him. After 2019 I’m sure o was insufferable.
He knows that Aranda wasn’t the best choice to lead the Tigers’ defense. “We are so much better on defense right now than any part of the season last year,” said Orgeron this week (via 247Sports). LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron can’t hide his excitement over Bo Pelini Coach O hired former LSU defensive coordinator/Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini to replace Aranda. Pelini is instantly a better fit for Orgeron’s staff. He’s fiery and passionate (not words that would be used to describe Aranda) and his philosophy matches up better with Coach O’s. “I feel Bo Pelini coming in, he’s brought a new energy, a new excitement, the 4-3. Dave Aranda did a tremendous job for us, but I’m glad we moved to the 4-3. We’re more attacking style of defense, using our personnel.”
