I used to be a straight up Coors Light guy. Started dating a chic who was really into beer a few years ago. Now, I frequently go to the Chimes in Covington and try a flight of beers I have never had. Have had some good ones and some not so good ones. One thing I know is that I do not like IPA's.
That's a great question. I think this link does a good job of articulating that: https://www.craftbeer.com/breweries/what-is-a-craft-brewery As far as Abita, they have fallen behind quite a bit but have a wide national distribution to those who may want a more basic wheat beer like their Amber.
So if you don't sell a lot of your beer it's a craft beer. I used to make beer with a Mr. Beer kit I got for Christmas one time and I'm thinking about getting back into it. Not to sell but to drink. Would I be a craft Brewer.
I think that definition has a bit of cushion these days as breweries that are considered craft have a wide distribution. I would think a lot of homebrewers would be classified as craft but if the recipe is based off of Bud, Miller I actually don't know.
