How well do you think Cheeseburger Weiss and Callahan would do playing 8 SEC games a year? That is the measure of good coach.

Callahan would already be gone and this would be Charlie's last year, uh, unless they were at Vandy. Hmmm, Vandy would be a great fit for Callahan but not Charlie.

Bobby Johnson would probably do well at Nebraska as well.

In the SEC, where they would miss it is the same place they are missing it right now. They both do well on the offensive side of the ball, but seemingly haven't paid attention to the defense. IMO, that's the biggest reason Callahan is facing so much heat in Nebraska because of the tradition of the "Black shirts."

What I find interesting is this thought. Let's assume after 3 years these 2 coaches are looking for work. Callahan? Where would he go but down? Weiss, he finds himself back in his old position as an OC, probably back to working on Sunday's.

The overall quality of coaching in this league is stronger than it's ever been. Right now we have four coaches who have won national championships, one who has finished undefeated, and one who led Oregon to the Rose Bowl before anyone knew the Ducks existed. That's not even couting Richt who has won 2 SEC titles, or Miles who has lost 5 times in 3 years and has his team perched at number 2 in the country.

I mention this to say that Saban has a much tougher road than either Weiss or Callahan. He is better than either one of those guys, but he's got to have much better football teams than either one of them to even make a dent. Saban could do a remarkable job here and still finish with 2 losses every year. What you hope is that there is a season where everything aligns correctly and you get through with one loss. Then you have to hope that someone from the Big12, Big10 or Pac10 isn't undefeated.

That explains it very well. Then you throw in how each season unfolds. At the beginning of this season it looked like the PAC 10 was going to be weak and they have turned in some good teams in ASU and Oregon. The SEC is stronger this year except to outsiders that don't understand how deep our conference is. It makes you wonder what Miss State's record would be in the Big 12 or Big Ten this year. Heck, Miss State could be another Kansas in a weaker conference.

There was an article written in the last week or so comparing the two conferences top to bottom. I think it was on this site about writers favoring Oregon? It was interesting to see how they matched up the teams and how the point spreads widened the further down the conference they went.

I understand your point about MSU, but comparing them to Kansas is a bit of a stretch. They have one of the most basic offenses out there...even though it's a SEC version of the West Coast offense.

Do you think Bama would be undefeated with the Kansas schedule?

I don't think so. Playing at Colorado would have been a tough game. OU found out. @ Kansas State is a game I just don't know about. I don't know a lot about that team.

Here's a photoshop idea. You know that painting of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, et al sitting at a bar/diner? Someone should make one featuring all the over-hyped, over-rated coaches sitting at a bar with a bowl game playing over on the TV off to the side.

First of all, I didn't think you did degrade Saban. Secondly, you said *consistently" out recruited Bama. I pointed out that's not the way Rivals had it. You said you used Scout. So, I looked at Scout and it wasn't the case there as well. I mentioned 2002 because that is how far those data bases go back. (Considering the context of this thread 2002 should be the year to use...after all, those players would be seniors now) I used the available information that was out there and it went against your assertion.

Last but not least, the term "Beau" is a term much like "Dude" but used a lot in the Lowcountry area. It's nothing more than a friendly greeting. If you choose to not except friendly greetings I'll remember that in the future.

It seems to me that you came out with this statement which, using the facts out there, was proven wrong. That upset you I assume. I'm sorry if it did.
