It would be interesting to know how all the players from Notre Dame and Nebraska were rated when recruited compared to Alabama. I view all three programs the same way. High profile programs way past their glory days with a large fan base with big positive media hype waiting in the wings. Let's say if 4 years of recruiting classes rank higher then Alabama's players then you have to question how good a coach is Charlie Weis. Obviously Bama has a much harder schedule then Notre Dame, or at least I think they do. You can do the same comparison with Nebraska. Anyone have any thoughts on comparing these three programs and the coaching jobs done so far this year at all three schools? Of course all three coaches are different in their styles. And you have to remember Callahan is in year 3, Weis in year 2 with Saban in year 1.

    So what do y'all think?

I dare say that no one expected our game this year to be the game that gave the in-road to ATL. I surely didn't.

C'mon, let's be fair. Regardless of our sentiments for Saban, comparing him to Weis or Callahan is like comparing Miles to Dinardo. It's plainly obvious to me that Alabama, barring a complete misinterpretation of how good a coach Saban is, is going to be a yearly contender for the West, just like us and Auburn.

Remeber Alabama can easily finish 7-5 this year. They still have to play Miss St. and Auburn. Maybe their new coach can stop that from happening but we will see.

To lump Bama with ND and Nebraska is out of the box, imo. Bama was a play away from being in the lead for the SEC West this year and putting together a whale of a recruiting class for '08. They're competing now, and will only get stronger.

The other two, Notre Dame is in shambles right now- Air Force is 3 pt. favorites Sat. Not sure WTH is up with Nebraska but I remember laughing when they let Solich go after a 3 loss season with all he'd done for/given to the program- they haven't had less than 4 losses per season since.

I pulled the recruiting info for you, as far as class rankings:

    Rivals Rankings of recruiting classes:
2003.......Alabama’s class was ranked 49; Notre Dame 12; Nebraska, 42
    2004.......Alabama’s 15; Notre Dame, 32; Nebraska, 27
    2005.......Alabama 18; Notre Dame, 40; Nebraska, 5
    2006......Alabama 11; Notre Dame, 8; Nebraska, 20
    2007......Alabama 10; Notre Dame, 8; Nebraska, 13

Currently Notre Dame has the highest rated class in the Nation for ’08 and Alabama is #3. Nebraska is sitting at 13.

It's plainly obvious to me that you missed his point by letting your bias and emotion dictate your comprehension. In fact their is a very subtle compliment but apparently you missed it.

Their is no way to do it and make it accurate at all. While these teams may have had highly rated recruiting classes before the coaches came in, the players may have not matched the new coaches styles. For example Callahan had some talent but none of them could become west coast passers after running the option for years.

Average out the 5 years there and you won't find much of a difference; 20, 21, and 27 - (ND).

I suspect, if you added the W's and L's, ND would have a slight lead based on the first two years with Weiss.

It sounds like a hit a sensitive nerve regarding Bama. I did not mean to. My reason for posting this is pure analysis. I think it is only fair to compare Weis' first season to Saban's first season this year. Obviously ND benefited far more with positive press for Weis' first year then Saban has at Bama. Remember, ND took USC to the end of the game at ND for USC to win Weis' first year at ND. This is similar to what just happen at Bama to LSU last weekend. I think Saban will do a much better job his 2nd and 3rd years at Bama. But I also thought the same of Callahan and Weis.

Thanks Tiga for posting the recruiting class rankings. I think Saban is doing a better than expected job at Bama "so far". These three coaches were recruited as big time coaches for big time programs. Weis started out hot his first season, so has Saban so far. I think comparing these three coaches and programs is an informative exercise for discussion. I guarantee if Saban continues to build a winning program then that will be the example other big programs will want to follow. And of course they will look at Nebraska and maybe ND at how not to make the same mistake.

I think there is a trend starting to take place. NFL coaches find it hard to be successful in College ball. College coaches find it hard to be successful in the NFL.
