There are only two bowl games that would feature this matchup. One, the Capital One bowl which would have the number two SEC team (unless LSU goes to the BCS championship) and then it would be the third ranked team. Traditionally, the Capital One bowl has favored inviting a West opponent. That leaves the Outback bowl which would have the 5th pick, but they normally lean towards inviting an East team. (that's based on recent picks) Either way it goes, there is a good chance Florida might get the invite to Outback but I'm inclined to think they are looking more at Chick-Fil-A or Cotton depending on where they finish. Considering there is a close race in the East and the West #2 spot is up for grabs, it's damn near impossible to see where the SEC teams end up bowling. The crazy thing about the Outback is it normally matches the 5th best SEC record vs the 3rd best Big 10 record which at this point is Illinios. NOW, throw in the possibility of having two SEC teams (one, an at-large bid)... A lot of stars have to align correctly for this to happen. Good Lord!! Either Michigan or Ohio State will be in the Capital One Bowl game so that only leaves the Outback. But, there are a bunch of scenarios that could put as many as one out of 5 teams in the SEC in either of these two games.
Ron Zook is a better recruiter than he is a coach and a lot of the reason UF won the National Championship. He is recruiting the same type players at UI as he did at UF. Although his record was not up to the UF fans expectations, he was able to win a lot of the big games he was not expected to win. I would not be surprised at all if UI beat UF in a bowl game if it were to happen. And as poorly as the UF fans treated Ron Zook before he ever arrived to start the job, I would happier than hell to see him ROMP UF. He is good guy and never deserved the treatment he got.
Given the Big Ten has had two teams in the BCS bowls four of the last five years... and the 3rd place team goes to the CapOne, your conclusion that it's "5th versus 3rd" in the Outback is, shall we say, more than a slight exaggeration. The last time Iowa played in the Outback, we were in a three way tie for 4th and had lost to Michigan, but got picked over Michigan because they have a history of their fans not showing up for non-BCS bowls... which is odd because their team doesn't show up for BCS bowls that their fans show up for... an oddity of sorts there!! Anyway, just saw a need to correct your "facts", such as they are.
