It's truly an honor to be featured in your signatures. OH, BTW, that drip, drip, drip sound you are hearing right now is sarcasm.
I asked if Saban was asked those questions. The only question he had to answer was "how much?" Croom had no chance. There are still too many old school geezers running the Bama program to let a black man into that inner sanctum.
Julio Jones said, if Bama lost to MSU, he'd drop them from his list. He also commented on JPW not being mobile, and that he look real sissy, getting tackled.
At that time, and I don't know if it still holds true today, Alabama had more Asst. head coaches who were AA than any other program in the SEC. You can continue to think it was about his skin color...and, you'd be wrong.
Well, I've been around awhile and I'm not naive. I'm not talking about assistants here, I'm talking about the head man. Believe what you will.
Two things you are over looking here. One, the hiring decision was made by the school President, Dr. Witt. So, putting it off on the old school guys is a thought that is fleeting, at best. Secondly, Croom had coached at Alabama and had a good reputation around the University. If he would have handled the interview well, he would have had the job. There were a lot of the "old school" guys that wanted him in. There were also a lot of the old school guys that wanted Richard Williamson but Witt thought he was too old position. Belief comes from knowing SB.
My mistake I guess. Stupid me for thinking the BOS and big boosters had any say in what happens at Alabama.
SabanFan, I do not believe Croom ever had a chance anywhere but MSU. Also, I do not believe a Black coach has much of a chance at any School in the SEC other than MSU.
