    Good point.

We can relate, Gerry Dinardo was doing just fine until he couldn't fire some assistants who were failing to get the job done, especially DC Lou Tepper, and then the wheels came off on him. Charlie Mac lost his job for much the same reason--dogged loyalty to assistant coaches who couldn't hack it anymore.

Nick at LSU was criticised by many rivals and a few locals because he had so much turnover of assistant coaches. Nick is very demanding and some left because they couldn't handle Nick's temper while others left because Nick wanted them gone. Either way, Nick upgraded each year he was at LSU, losing at about three a year. I thought it was a good thing. It will be interesting to see who doesn't survive at Bama this year.

Les cut loose an OC and an OL coach last season and seems to have upgraded at both positions, as well.

Actually OL coach, Coach Searles left to work in similar position at UGA due to personal reasons. He is from there and after the passing of his father(a very nice gentleman,BTW) in '06 he wanted to move closer to his mother. Stacey encouraged all the people he was recruiting to stay with LSU and spoke highly of LSU even though he was leaving. He has a nice family and is a Christian. His family tailgated with the Mile's family and were always very nice and fun to talk to. I wish him the best of luck in the future. As for Jimbo Fisher I believe it was a mutual parting and both parties have benefited.

I've just spent time studying the entire first half.

I am disturbed at what I think is evidence of bias against LSU from the officiating crew.

Three points: face mask, Hester's personal foul, and pass interference.

With regard to face mask and PI: I studied four plays, a FM and a PI call against LSU . . . and two plays in which it seemed to me that AB (AB is my new abbreviation for Alabama) players should have been called for a FM and a PI, but were not.

The FM against LSU that i'm talking about was NOT even a FM! It was obvious from the replay that the LSU defender grabbed jersey and shoulder pad, rather than FM . . . no matter . . . FLAG five yard penalty on LSU. And yet, at the end of another earlier play in the 1st Half, an AB defender briefly grabs LSU FM and NO CALL.

The PI? I saw two seemingly identical plays in which the defender blocks the ball with one hand while the other hand seemingly touches the waist or back of the receiver . . . THESE TWO PLAYS LOOKED IDENTICAL TO MY EYES, AND I WATCHED THEM IN SLOW MOTION . . . and yet . . . PI AGAINST LSU BUT NO CALL AGAINST AB. The call against LSU came with AB inside the LSU 10 yd line.

Hester's personal foul: Yes, he head-butted after he made the tackle on the AB defender who just had intercepted a Flynn pass . . . BUT ONLY AFTER BEING SURROUNDED BY A HORDE OF TRASH-TALKING AB WHO RAN UP TO HIM IN ORDER TO TAUNT HESTER !! ISN'T TAUNTING A PERSONAL FOUL???

AB SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED FOR TAUNTING . . . BUT NO . . . THEY CALL THE PENALTY ON HESTER FOR RETALIATING.

Now, we really need to do something about our penalties . . . Coach Miles needs to do something about it . . .

BUT I AM DISTURBED AT THE EVIDENCE OF BIAS IN FAVOR OF AB AND AGAINST LSU

WHAT AM I GOING TO SEE AS I STUDY THE 2nd HALF?

COME ON, SEC OFFICIALS . . . DON'T GIVE COACH SABAN A BREAK ON CALLS JUST BECAUSE HE GETS MANICURES AND HAS A BETTER COIFFURE THAN COACH MILES!!

Well, . . . every coach that leaves a team is said to "want to be closer to his family" or something nice like that. Nobody ever comes out and says, "Well, he wasn't getting the job done, so I fired him". Nick fired about 10 assistants who all seemed to want to be "closer to their families".

Coaching is a volatile profession and head coaches understand that it can happen to them, too. They are forced to repalce guys they personally like all the time. They almost never openly fire someone, but often they need to make a change. Coaches are usually given an easy out that saves both the school's and the coach's face.

I'm sure Stacy Searles is a very nice Christian guy, but his offensive line underperformed badly in his two years under Les. When coaches make lateral moves, it's often because they didn't have the option to stay. Les definitely upgraded with coach Stud.

The no calls were worse than the bad calls. There was a lot of flagrant holding going on that was never called.

I've got the same question. How can we not be getting any holding calls? I heard on the radio (admitedly not the best place to get info) that the HC meets with the referee crew before the game to discuss concerns for the upcoming game. Is that true?

And we never heard an explanation on why the official standing right by the Auburn chop block never made the call.

This is where you are mistaken. I personally know Coach Searles and he was a member of a Church in which I have friends that attended. I had the pleasure of meeting his father and mother. I spoke to his father and mother at every home game. I have sat with his wife and children at LSU games as well as other coaches families. I know his father died and his mother is elderly. Last year his mother didn't make trips to LSU for each home game as she had before. Just because someone makes a lateral career move does not mean they were let go. It just shows you where his priorities are. I try not to assume things about people that I don't know. Coach Searles's Oline did real well in '03 with a couple of sophs on it if you look back. LSU's line this year is more experienced than in 06 so I don't know how you make that comparison. But you are entitled to your opinion and that's fine. I believe coach Stud is a good coach because CLM hires only quality people.:thumb:

My understanding is that Searles left of his own accord, but that it was a mutual parting.

I saw a thread about this the other day...can't remember where...but the count was only 4 by that group. What was the exact number?
