We at LSU, Michigan State and the Miami Dolphins know Saban well. We all drank the Kool Aid and believed him to be the best Coach ever. We also know the failures. So.....following that thought I was wondering what are things Bammers will be yelling from the stands when Saban's defense gives up big plays to loose the game. I remember well the Arkansas game and how I almost got mugged trying to get back to my car after that unbelieveable last last second loss in Little Rock to lose the West, and how about the Iowa melt down during Saban's last game as a Tiger after JaMarcus Russell won the game with practically no time left. He sure likes leaving a program after losing doesn't he? So what will rain down on Coach Saban as his failures pile up??? "What are we paying this guy?" "We just paid this guy over $250,000 for this game?" (Not really sure what the per game cost is) I'm sure many of you can do a lot better then me. So give your best shot. This will help Bammers be more creative when their time comes. Geaux Tigers!
I've lived in Louisiana going on 12 years now. So I was present when LSU wasn't "the hot commodity" it is now. You couldn't find an LSU fan when they lost to quote so what's your point? It's amazing how many "die hard", "loyal" fans have come out of the wood works since the 2003 championship year. Bama fans are "nuts", we have high expectations, not all of our "people" have all their teeth (but I find that common with the SEC fan base in general) and we've had our highs and lows. But one thing is for sure we don't put our Bama gear up when things aren't going great......ROLL TIDE!!!:thumb:
There's a lot of truth to that but the same can be said about any program. Reminded me of what my HS baseball coach used to say, "If you think winning isn't everything.....see who wants to come watch a bunch of losers"? I was a fan through the lean years too but it is nice to have company. That's cause we'll fight for what we believe in. Can't really say that cause bama fans have never acknowledged things weren't going great and (Collectively) still think Alabama football is the epitome of NCAAF.
Saban did not leave LSU a loser. The last second loss to Iowa was not a result of his coaching, but of a missed assignment. He built a strong program here in BR and left Miles with a strong base to build from. I hate seeing him go to Bama, and don't particularly like the way he did it, but let's give credit where credit is deserved. Saban did a lot for LSU.
That's another one of those "can be said about any program". You've got LSU "fans" that think LSU has always been this good and the 90's for some reason never really existed. That's what great about college football. It goes in cycles. To be a "good" college football fan you better be able to enjoy your highs and get the most out of 'em but if you hang around long enough you'll get your turn behind the wood shed. :thumb:
I am not arguing that he didnt do alot for this program just the Iowa game. I blame Saban for that loss because he put in Flynn numerous times in the game when he didnt get much playing time the whole year. We had the 2 QB system that year with Marcus and Jamarcus and when he put JR in he brought us back on top.
I'm not going to expound further, but Jamarcus dug his own grave vis-a-vis playing time for the entire 2004 season. Some of us that have wanted to see him benched over the past two seasons have our reasons, and it's far more than racism or simply wanting to see the backup.
Now that some time has passed I have given Saban the benefit of the doubt. He says his heart is in college and his family mattered most when it came to his decision. I respect that. He could have handled his departure better at Miami but that is water under the bridge. That said I look forward to kciking Bama butt every season but if Miles decided to leave for Michigan one day I'd really like to see the look on Bama fans faces if Nick pulled another end around and came back here...for a paycut no less. THAT would be priceless. P.S. No flames needed. Don't need to hear all of the "now way, never" responses. This is just the musings of a dangerous mind.
As a Bama fan for over 50 years ive come to realize that college football success runs in cycles.Bama has been a medeocre team for the last 10 years. What the Saban hire has done is give the Bama Nation hope. And thats something i have not had in a long time. Hope of being able to compete for an SEC championship or even an NC. Do we expect to do that next year? No, Most of the people i know would be happy with 8/4. With the 85 scholarship rule imposed by the ncaa the days of long term dynasties are history.
Randall had as many come backs and good games as JR... just like with Flynn, I preferred Randall because he could run when things broke down..
