With all the rumors floating around about HC moves, let me ask a question. If I were to put up a poll here asking who you thought was the better HC, Saban or Tubs, I would expect Saban would be the choice by a large margin. That being the case, my question is why would TAMU go after Tubs when they can get Saban cheaper?
I would agree with you if this year had somehow inflated Saban's ego, but i believe the events this year have deflated that a little bit. I mean if he somehow by some bizzaro world event won an NC then i could see where he might want to take on some other challenge and his ego be HUGE, but not in this situation.
How do you figure? Nick won't be going anywhere for less than $5 million. Tuberville would be a fool to pass up what A&M can offer, even if it is less than what Saban makes. They won't have to offer $4 million to get the coach they want. A&M is in the middle of a vast and fertile recruiting ground that is coveted by many. The best talent Tuberville could recruit at Auburn, even with Bama on probation, only got him one championship in 10 years. He has to move on to move up, I'm afraid.
I think Tubs would be a fool to go to eATMe. The recruiting grounds may be fertile but they are playing 3rd fiddle behind Texas, Oklahoma and LSU. Even Tech has made big strides chipping away at eATMe's recruiting. If you've ever been to College Station you know its not the most attractive destination around. Auburn is way nicer and in a far better location. Bryan is brown dingy dust bowl dump. Its the kind of atmosphere that may turn off some of this generations recruits. Add to that the goofy eATMe traditions and I think today's athletes may have better fish to fry elsewhere. Tubs has a great gig going in Aub. He is making tons of money, just built a huge house, has a great lake house and his family is set. Auburn has a loyal following in a wide ranging geographic area including south alabama, south west georgia and parts of florida. I cant see him moving to college station with what he has built up at Aub.
No Call for that. Texas A&M has fine traditions. I'm a Tiger, but most of my family were Aggies. I know plenty about their traditions, and there's nothing goofy about them. Let them have their honored traditions, and we'll have ours. ldskule:
Are you backing out of your bet that Tubs wouldn't go anywhere? J/K PT. I have to wonder how on earth you think they could get Saban cheaper? And, why on earth would anyone think money has anything to play in this scenario? It's an easy answer to why they think they can get Tubs out of the Plains. It starts with Lowder/Petrino and then moves into a few different areas. I understand all too well how money can influence decisions made at Universities. It's been something that has been pointed to on many occasions. One thing I feel comfortable saying is this. IF A&M comes across with a large contract offer for Tubs I seriously doubt you'll see Lowder or Raines be in favor of matching or exceeding it.
Tubs would be crazy to leave Auburn for TAMU. He knows he can beat Saban, he's already done it and I think he will continue to enjoy being the thorn in Alabama's side. The only way I see Saban leaving is Bama running him off or another huge challenge similar to Bama. Any hint of dissatisfaction from Saban will propel a Notre Dame like disaster to offer him 6 or 7 million a year. Yes, he would go and Sexton would get another big payday. Saban is using Larry Brown's playbook.
I just received this in an email PT. I swear I can't understand why on earth Scout.com would even...different story. This is from Mark Green. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=6#s=6&f=1010&t=1366734
Terry, who is Mark Green? I don't believe I recognize the name. That's a pretty wild rant, though, regardless of his credentials.
