Niners moving to Santa Clara is similar to the Patriots moving to Foxboro a few years back. The team will still be called the San Fransisco 49ers, they'll just play at a different stadium. Not that big of a deal in my book.
San Francisco has long been notoriously prissy about it's name being bandied about. #1 All the locals call it "The City" #2 They HATE it when you call it "Frisco" #3 They REALLY HATE it when you tell them that their politics are f'd up. They're crowing about how "normal" they all are after Tuesday's fiasco. #4 Mayor Gavin Newsom has threatened to try and keep the 49er name AND not allow them to use "San Francisco 49ers" if the team moves. Beautiful city? sure, parts are Great restaurants ? you betcha Entertainment? all the time Arrogant? OH YEAH.
