Raymond and David Jenkins from Texas are almost clones. They are similar in so many ways. I expect Jenkins to crack the 2 deep and start seeing the field this year.
Word out is that both Jenkins and Collins have been doing very well. What you know about Corey Thompson, a good friend of mine coached his Dad (Tony) in college. Some of my friends in Tx speak highly of this kid. All say LSU got a good one.
My honest break-down on Thompson, is that he doesn't possess the same skills of a Landon Collins, very few do, but I would be surprised to see much of a difference between both players for LSU and Alabama when the dust clears. Thompson can tackle with force, is disruptive, and may even deliver more POP on his tackles than Landon. It will be interesting to see if Landon stays at Safety or gets moved to running back. MOre than likely he will remain at safety, but I have heard that Alabama will give a look to him at running back during the summer.
My opinion, just gathered from watching what video I could find sitting in front of my computer so take it for what it's worth, is this. Landon Collins is very fast and a great athlete, but is not all that great in pass coverage. I think he would probably have played linebacker at LSU. As a safety Corey Thompson is a better fit. Maybe. Collins will have some competition with Yeldon, Hart, etc. if he moves to RB.
tenpenny and yeldon are very good backs, the only difference is, they both are more like scat backs, where as Collins could be that every-down back because of his size.
I get the same thing with the talk from my friends in Tx. All say that LSU got a steal with this kid. Glad to have him........:geaux:
