    As of right now, ESPN is the only one I see who is reporting him dead. Knew this would come eventually. No matter what you think of him, he is an icon in baseball.

    Update: Definitely dead now

    Best owner in baseball (and probably pro sports) of my lifetime.

    The money he made on the Yankees was spent on trying to make the Yankees better. His moves didn't always work, but it wasn't from lack of effort.


    I'm as anti-Yankee as the next guy, but this man deserves a great deal of respect.

    Same here, can't think of a more relevant owner in the history of sports. I hate the f'n yanks but he deserves respect.

    No owner hated losing more than this man.

    He was revered.

    This man started the high paying contracts back in the 70's with Reggie Jackson. From then on paying professional athletes big contracts became the norm. Steinbrenner will always be a huge part of baseball like him or not. The history he produced is unbelievable. I hated the fugger but cant help but respect his accomplishments and what the Yankee's did under his leadership.
