Just read that..."T.C. McCartney will be priority walk-on at LSU" Here's the link to the story... http://www.dailycamera.com/news/2007/mar/20/tc-mccartney-will-be-priority-walk-on-at-lsu-by/ ...and it's quite complimentary of LSU. Anyway, what is a priority walk on?
Most of our walk-ons are offered by smaller schools, and recruited by us but never offered - they are priority walk ons. I'm not sure exactly what priviledges that offers over a regular walk-on, except that there's no try-out perhaps...
^^^^^ what he said. It's a guaranteed roster spot with the implication that if someone quits, or if they don't fill the number of schollies in the next class, that you get one.
Nick was generous with walkons who were achieving and gave one or two a full scholarship every year, especially kickers. I haven't heard much about Les' policy, though. I'd like to see LSU develop a better walk-on program. A few schools, like Nebraska, get dozens of good athletes to decline scholarships from smaller schools and walkon. They've done it for decades and they are successful because ambitious and competitive walkon's can get playing time, earn letters, and some earn full ride scholarships.
Under Nick Saban regular Walk Ons had a separate dressing room from the scholarship players. Priority walk ons were allowed to dress with the team. I don't know if Coach Miles has this policy, but I hope it has been dropped.
Not at all. GS's count against the next class. As example, a GS in '06 counts against the '07 class. The "priority" is the same as an invited walk-on.
Well if a recruit is brought in, given a roster spot, and then given a scholarship when one became available, would it not count against the next class? Guess i'm missing something.
