From Tiger Rag: Under sunny skies and windy conditions, a large number of media and visitors gathered on the sidelines as the Tigers prep for the first scrimmage of spring practice Friday at 3 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. Just a few quick tidbits including visits from former Tigers Stephen Peterman and Marquise Hill. Another NFL Pro Day is set tomorrow on the LSU campus, but word is Hill held a private workout this morning. Tiger signee Luke Sanders was on hand along with his father, heralded West Monroe High School strength coach Casey Sanders. The Zachary High School football was also on hand. Dominic Cooper and Amp Hill were the only players still dressed in a red jersey. Hill was dressed today after sitting out of Monday’s drills. Running back Alley Broussard, who had previously been donning red, was back to full strength as was tight end Demetri Robinson, who ran with the first team today. Getting to catch one period of some offensive sets, Marcus Randall continues to run with the first team offense. The rest of the offense set included Justin Vincent lined up to Randall’s right in a shotgun formation.
More notes Split out wide to the right was Dwayne Bowe – to the left Craig Davis. Skyler Green went in motion from the left slot and Joseph Addai saw extensive work in the right slot. The offensive line consisted of the usual (from left to right) Andrew Whitworth, Terrell McGill, Ben Wilkerson, Rudy Niswanger and Nate Livings. With the second unit, JaMarcus Russell was lined up in the gun with Shyrone Carey to his immediate right. Split wide left again was Bowe while Craig Davis was on the right. Addai and Schirra Fields saw action at the slots. Up front with the second group were (from left to right) Peter Dyakowski, Will Arnold, Doug Planchard, Brian Johnson and Niswanger. It looked as if these were just a couple of wide open sets but it was impressive with all of that talent grouped together.
Makes some sense. Remember, that formation worked very well with Randall and Domanick Davis; also makes sense to work on that formation if/when Matt Flynn takes over, if one is to believe he's as good a runner as many mention he is around here.
We ran that a lot early in the year last season with Shyrone and Addai but I don't remember seein gthe delayed draw with JV as much.
