Lsu lost its entire starting rotation and middle infield. Then the insane amount of injuries they had no real shot. We knew this was a rebuild year before first pitch. Tiga killed any chance of a lucky run.
CPM like most LSU coaches at times get under my skin, but as far as the quality he brings to the table, he is above average. The guy knows baseball and most times puts us with the players needed to make it to the promise land but they have to produce, he can’t do it for them. The thing that every true baseball fan knows is that it’s never a sure thing. Skip was lightning in a bottle and with all the changes since he left it will be hard to repeat that kind of run. For the most part baseball is a pretty even sport and any team can get hot at the right time and win it all. This year was not common for our team even if some may look at the outcome and think that it is. The times we didn’t make it, we got beat by better play on that day.
Interesting read. I'm no Casey Stengel, but I still believe you need bats to be consistently competitive. The more interesting aspect of this article is the injuries which returns me to my theory about sports here in general. Lsu is always suffering costly injuries. It seems every season in football the offensive line is depleted due to injury. Attention and reevaluation should be given to the training and conditioning of athletes. Something is amiss. There are too many injuries too frequently in this sports program. Tremendous advancements have been made in regard to strength development and methods to reduce injuries. S&C is no longer free weights and 'feeling the burn.' Is this sports program keeping up?
