I was wondering what everyone's favorite low budget movie would be. This would low-cost, little-known actors. I can think of two I really like.

    The Gods Must be Crazy
    Quest for Fire

Was Quest for Fire low budget? I would not have thought of that one.

I think my favorite is Living in Oblivion, though it has some recognizable actors in it. Think it's still an under the radar Indie, and certainly was low budget.

Fall with Eric Schaeffer and a British actress named Amanda DeCadenet (also a young Scarlett Johansson) is one of my favorite movies ever. Not quite sure of the budget but I would think it would have to be pretty low. Limited cast and was written, directed and acted in by Schaeffer...he might have produced it too. First time I saw it was on the Sundance channel. It's pretty racy and graphic at some points but the dialogue in the script is what hooked me. I highly recommend it but don't watch it with the kids.

It never struck me as being a big budget movie because there were not name actors in it that could pull in the big bucks, and there no expensive sets and not much in the way of special effects.

I would not consider the Red Violin a small budget film. Big name actors were in it and it involved expensive sets. I am not sure about the locales where it was shot.
