Associated Press Dec. 18, 2008, 11:39AM Cy Ridge quarterback Russell Shepard has been named the offensive player of the year in Class 5A by the Associated Press. Shepard, who intends to play for LSU, threw for 1,458 passing yards and 16 TDs in nine games. He also ran for 17 touchdowns. The Associated Press awards are for the regular season, but including the playoffs gives Shepard 20 passing and 28 rushing touchdowns. His Rams defeated Round Rock and Lufkin before falling to Copperas Cove in the 5A Division II Region II semifinals. Shepard surpassed 300 yards rushing and 200 yards passing in that 55-48 loss.
