Just as everybody predicted, somebody in the CIA would step up now that the s*** has hit the fan to declare that it was a CIA mistake which caused Bush to make a false statement about Saddam seeking uranium in Niger.

They must think we're all a bunch of damn fools.

My next prediction: not many people are going to believe George Tenet. This only makes things worse for Bush, trying to cover up his lie.

And now we know what the deal was.

George Bush just issued a statement, expressing confidence in George Tenet.

I'm sure the conversation went a lot like this:

Bush: "Well, George, things are looking pretty bad right now. I'm sure you know everybody's making a big deal over that Niger story now."

Tenet: "Yes, Mr. President. You should not have used that. Everybody here knew it was false, the state department knew it was false, Colin Powell didn't use it at the UN because he knew it was false, and we sent you notices that it was false."

Bush: "George, well, too late for that. You know that a lot of my Republican friends want your head on a platter already, don't you?"

Tenet: "Yes, Mr. President. That's no secret."

Bush: "Well, George. Here's the deal. You're going to say you screwed up and okayed the false information in my speech, and then I'm going to take care of you.

Tenet: "Oh? How is that going to work?"

Bush: "Well, George. You're going to tell the press this afternoon that you made a mistake. And shortly thereafter I will tell the press that I still have confidence in you. If I have my say, and I probably will, you can keep your job, too.

Tenet: "Won't I go to hell for selling my soul?"

Bush: "I don't know much about those things. Is it a deal?"

    Tenet: "Deal."

Tenet is a fine person. He will do very well in the future. One mis understanding doesnt make him horrible at what he does, esp head of the CIA.

What really gives you hope is Springer in 2008. You guys attack "Shrub" yet the lumber coming out of the Dems presidential timber supply wouldn't even make decent kindling. If every allegation vs Bush was true (and none of them are) he'd still win in 2004... hands down.

WHAT??? When's the last time you saw Bin Laden's mangy ass? Where is Saddam? They are hiding out in rock crevasses while Bush and Blair get on with the business of running their respective countries. O-Fer? I think not.
