SPORTSbyBROOKS » Auburn Payroll: Tens of Thousands To Hostesses

21 recruiting hostesses were paid $78,044.26 between 2009 and 2011

i doubt it's a full-blown prostitution ring, but it is interesting to see how much their recruiting hostesses get paid, and the comments below the article were funny to read, including:

    edit to add:

here's an interview with a former college hostess. she mentions Georgia several times as a big rival, so apparently she was a hostess for someone like Georgia Tech or Florida

Not really news is it, other universities, if not all, have this practice.

That article is total crap. My daughter was a Tigerette last year and didn't get a dime. The ones who did get paid were the officers and they work their butts off for something they love.

Jamie Nolen is a sweet young lady who loves Auburn football. Any insinuation that she's an Auburn prostitute is just some rival team jerkwad trying to grab headlines in a Finebaum fashion.

I know all schools do it and they do because beautiful women have a big impact on very young men. However it is very sleazy and I wish the practice would stop. As far as AU's Tigerettes being prostitutes I think that's still open for debate.

Beautiful women have an impact on everything, not just football. There is nothing wrong with that. These girls are not prostituting themselves. They meet the players at the stadium two hours before gametime, talk to them, get them food and drinks, talk to their parents, sell the program.

They love football, they are part of the Auburn team, they get to be on the sidelines during the game and they are helping their team. Wouldn't you love the opportunity to be on the sideline during every game of an LSU season, especially when we won a NC?

They wear very conservative dresses, unlike the cheerleaders or the golden girls. Maybe we need to get rid of them.

The difference is the cheerleaders and golden girls keep their clothes on.

so do the tigerettes. Only a scumbag would suggest otherwise.
It is not okay or acceptable to make such claims about young people who don't deserve it. At best it is boorish rumormongering, and at worst it is irresponsible slander.

Football is a game we all love, but sometimes it's not about football and it's not really even about a false perception. Sometimes you just need to stick up for the innocent because it is the right thing to do.

I normally respect your posts, but in this instance you should probably stick to a subject you have some knowledge about, TT :dis:

Looks like everyone is starting to gain a little knowledge about the subject. I think it is a sleazy practice period as I said, not just at AU. I wish the NCAA would put a stop to it across the board.

if the article was about LSU hostesses, i'd want LSU to review our policy regarding hostesses adding star recruits as "friends" on facebook. of course it's going to arouse suspicion in the general public when you see a bunch of pretty, young university-paid hostesses add a star recruit as a facebook "friend," esp right after he announces he is moving to Auburn for the summer. more importantly, having a policy regarding the relationship between your recruiting hostesses and your star recruits can decrease the risk of possible NCAA sanctions. for ex, Tennessee recently attracted NCAA scrutiny regarding their recruiting hostesses under Kiffin:
