It looks like my novena worked!!! John Deshazier's article was right on time in the TP this morning. He pointed to Bush's decline in production and the fact that the Saints offense doesn't dip in production when Bush is absent. "The addition of Ingram, the return to health of Pierre Thomas, the improvement of Chris Ivory and the likelihood that New Orleans can find another player who can average 7.8 yards per punt return, say that Bush isn't irreplaceable as a running back and returner". IMO, Bush is so easily replaceable we don't even have to get anyone new. This is a case of addition by subtraction. We have just become a better team with more money to spend on someone who isn't a coward, cheat and distraction to our team. :thumb::thumb::rofl::rofl::yelwink2::yelwink2: Happy days are here again, the skies above are clear again......
although i agree Bush was getting paid too much for a "3rd down back" type, i think it sucks to lose Bush and I think Payton agrees with me, and i thought that well before this news of the Saints signing Darren Sproles it is true that the Saints offense didn't dip in production last year without Bush, but who knows how much more time, work, and stress Payton, Brees and the rest of the Saints offensive staff had to endure to make that happen (note that Brees didn't have one of his best years last year) also, i don't think Bush is easily replaceable at all. quite the opposite. it's not easy to find a player that is both a home-run threat at punt returner and one of the most elite receivers-out-of-the-backfield in the League New Orleans Saints' Reggie Bush New Orleans Saints Miami Dolphins - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN Note: not sure where this Fox sports guy is coming up with Bush being the #1 RB in yards per catch with 7.3, when RB Darren Sproles had 9.6 yards per catch for his career since he entered the league in 2005 (Sproles has 9.7 yards per catch from 2006-now, same span Bush played)... however Bush has 2,142 career receivng yards (on 294 catches) while Sproles only has 1,400 (on 146 catches), so maybe he was thinking #1 for RBs that have over 1,500 career yards receiving or something
I think there are plenty other reasons as to why Brees didn't do as well and our offense was inconsistent last year outside of Reggie Bush. Well, you already mentioned that Sproles was better than Bush as a receiving RB but Sproles is also a better punt returner on average than Bush as well. Higher average, but less TDs...not a problem with our offense though. So, problem solved?
Bush has been replaced. It took less than 24 hours. Sproles is better in every category on a ypc basis--rushing, receiving, punt returns. Oh and he has lost one fumble---------in his entire career. Bye-Bye Reggie, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Darren Sproles Stats - ESPN
getting Sproles is unbelievable news to me, i'm pretty excited about it. losing Bush sucked but getting Sproles makes up for that... and not to mention we have Ingram joining the team. fun times ahead
sprioles is a football player. he is almost impossible to tackle by one guy much less in the open field. he fights to be on the field when the games on the line. as does lance Moore. these are quality guys who are difference makers. gonna be a great year. key grab by Payton. will payoff huge.
I completely agree Tirk. At 5'6" Sproles is more of a man than Reggie Bust will ever be. He has proven he is more than capable of running it between the tackles instead of running laterally, backwards and out of bounds like the disgraced Heisman winner. He is better at every facet of the game, and returns kicks too. At a reported 4yr/14mil he is much cheaper and has to be a better team player and less of a distraction. Lance Moore impressed me the first year we acquired him. He catches almost everything he can reach and is a clutch player.
