Military spending is a huge, way out of proportion, drain on resources and a major source of massive deficits.

US military spending ($649 billion) is more than twice that of China ($250 billion) which is in 2nd place. In fact, the US spending is more than the sum of spending of the next SEVEN countries (2-8) (and just a few bucks less than including the 9th!)

I am not real proud of being from the country with by far the greatest military spending on this world.

If we would clean up our foreign policy, stop the worthless wars we find ourselves in, and most importantly shed the mantle of the world’s policeman, our military spending could plummet (as would deficit spending). The national psyche of policing the world while pushing our preferred mode of government, “democracy,” is truly debilitating.

OBTW, the country that spends the third most is Saudi Arabia, our bitch in the Mideast (or are we their’s). For what good that does them.

This data is very easily obtained. The specific numbers came from a table from CNN. No agenda, it was simply the easiest to import and sum up.

Your way of thinking is way way scary. Are you really ashamed of America being the most powerful military in the world? So in your mindset we should let China, Russia and whomever catch up to us militarily just to be fair?

I think not screaming “We’re number one!” in regards to defense spending would be a good thing. I’m also not so certain that we have not already been caught in regard to capabilities that will be used in a meaningful way.

While we have been spending TRILLIONS on un-winnable wars and feckless nation building while getting Americans killed for dubious reasons, our so-called competitors have been sitting back, modernizing their military at a fraction of our defense spending, without conflict.

Even if we have the most powerful military in the world, the lack of national will or bi-partisan consensus to use it, negate pretty much everything but the spending. Reflect for a moment how our military is hamstrung against piss ant countries such as North Korea and Iran. Hell, just read yesterday that a carrier battle group deployed, without the carrier! The carrier was broke dick in the yards.

Well the broke dick carrier statement blows a hole in your "we are spending too much on our military" idea. As far as WE have been spending too much on un-winable wars that was on the Bushes and Obama's watch. Trump from my perspective is not doing that. N. Korea? Had Slick Willie dealt with NOKO like Trump is trying to do they wouldn't be a piss ant country with a nuclear arsenal right now. Trump is left to not only clean up Slick's messes he now is having to clean the mess Obama's made with Iran. Speak softly carry the biggest stick in the world is my mindset.

How can they be deployed without a ship? Did they swim?

All the escorts sailed, without the carrier. Probably 3 to 5 smaller ships.

Deep State. You think they are ready to reduce their income? Where do you think most of this spending actually goes? The Troops? LOL

Did I? Because you said this:

If we would clean up our foreign policy, stop the worthless wars we find ourselves in, and most importantly shed the mantle of the world’s policeman, our military spending could plummet (as would deficit spending). The national psyche of policing the world while pushing our preferred mode of government, “democracy,” is truly debilitating.

I mean, you know this is never going to happen. Which is why I said what I said.
